April 21, 2010
Top Indians prospect Carlos Santana is day-to-day after fouling a ball off his right knee during Triple-A Columbus' game against Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon.

Santana, batting .364 through 13 games this season, left the game in the third inning when, with two outs, he fouled a ball off his knee. Damaso Espino replaced him during the at-bat and remained behind the plate.

The 23-year-old Santana has four homers and 14 RBIs in 44 at-bats this season with the Clippers after spending all of 2009 with Double-A Akron. He's tied for second in the International League in homers and RBIs.

Santana drew a two-out walk in the first inning. He was 10-for-31 (.323) with seven RBIs and five runs scored in his last 10 games entering Wednesday.

The switch-hitting Dominican had a huge year in 2009 as a two-time Eastern League All-Star and an All-Star Futures Game selection. He was also named the Topps Eastern League Player of the Year and Eastern League MVP after hitting .290 with 23 homers and 97 RBIs in 130 games.

As part of the Dodgers organization, he was the 2008 California League MVP and earned recognition as MLB.com's Class A Advanced Offensive Player of the Year that summer. Santana was originally signed by the LA as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 13, 2004, and traded to the Indians in the deal that brought Casey Blake to the Dodgers in 2008.
