Aberdeen, MD - For the eighth time this season, the Aberdeen IronBirds won in walk-off fashion. Trailing 7-5 with two outs in the 13th
inning, Manny Machado hit a two-run triple to tie the ball game. Kipp Schutz, who was named the team's MVP before the game, hit a game-winning single
as Aberdeen defeated the Connecticut Tigers 8-7.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first. With two outs, Josh Ashenbrenner reached on an infield single. Julio Rodriguez then singled to
center field. Aberdeen center fielder Jeremy Nowak had trouble playing the ball, allowing Ashenbrenner to score from first and giving Connecticut a 1-0
lead.
David Anderson tied the ball game in the second. With one out, Anderson (12) blasted a solo homer to center field.
The IronBirds weren't done. Connor Narron walked and Sammie Starr doubled, putting runners on second and third. Nowak drilled a two-run double to give
Aberdeen a 3-1 lead. A batter later, Mychal Givens drove in Nowak on a single, making it a three-run game.
Connecticut chipped away at the deficit in the third. With two on and two out, James Robbins hit a two-run double.
The Tigers tied the game in the fourth. With Matt Perry on second and two out, Ryan Enos hit an RBI-single.
Aberdeen starter Justin Moore left the game after the fifth. He surrendered four runs (just two earned) on nine hits. He didn't walk anybody and struck
out two.
The game stayed tied at four until the 11th. With runners on the corners and two outs, Enos hit an RBI-single to center field, making it
5-4.
The IronBirds tied it right back up. With two on and two out, Joe Oliveira struck an RBI-single to center, knotting the game at five.
Connecticut re-took the lead in the 13th. With nobody out, Dixon Machado worked a walk. He was sacrificed to second. Enos came through with
another RBI-base knock, giving the Tigers the lead. Enos stole second and scored on an Ashenbrenner single.
Just when all hope seemed loss, the IronBirds mounted one last rally. With two outs, Mychal Givens was hit by a pitch. Blair Dunlap singled, putting
two on. Machado tied the game with a two-run triple to right field. Schutz then singled to right, winning it for the IronBirds.
Jose Barajas (1-2) got the win. Logan Hoch (1-1) took the loss. He allowed all three runs in the 13th.
