IronPigs Crush Bulls In Series Finale

July 19, 2012
DURHAM, NC - After an hour rain delay to begin Thursday night's game, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs routed the Bulls 10-1 in the final meeting between the two teams this season. Alex Torres allowed five runs in the first two frames and the IL North leading IronPigs never looked back.

Lehigh Valley's Michael Martinez crushed a double off the top of the Blue Monster on the first pitch of the game. After a single from Kevin Frandsen, Torres (L, 3-5, 6.79) tossed a wild pitch that allowed Martinez to score. Two batters later, Hector Luna punished Durham again, crushing his third HR of the series, putting the IronPigs up 3-0.

Torres continued to struggle in the following inning. After walking two batters, Frandsen smacked a 2-RBI double to right field giving the Pigs a firm 5-0 lead. Both Frandsen and Luna finished the contest with four hit and 2 RBI games.

Durham avoided a shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rich Thompson climbed aboard with a single off of Justin Friend's leg. Henry Wrigley brought Thompson home with his first triple of the season, off the wall in right-center. Thompson and Wrigley ended the night with two hits each.

Josh Lueke was the lone bright spot for the Bulls pitching staff. Lueke relieved Torres in the fourth and threw three scoreless frames without walking a batter and striking out four. Lehigh Valley pulled away with it when Romulo Sanchez allowed eight hits and five more IronPigs to cross the plate in his three innings of work.

The Bulls welcome the Rochester Red Wings to the DBAP tomorrow night for the first of four games. RHP Esmerling Vasquez (3-4, 3.38) is slated to go for the Red Wings against RHP Lance Pendleton (4-4, 4.24). Game time is set for 7:05pm.
