It wasn't easy, but Rockies notch first win

They got a scare late, but the Grand Junction Rockies held on to notch the first win in franchise history with a 4-3 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars at Melaleuca Field.

Idaho Falls scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, and had the tying run on base, but Jesse Meaux was able to close the door and earn the save.

The game saw Rockies first round pickDavid Dahl make his professional debut, and he came through, reaching base twice and driving in a run.

Ryan Warner, drafted in the third round, also made his debut, and he picked up the win, allowing one run in two innings.

Grand Junction jumped ahead in the third. Matt Wessinger led off the inning with a double, he moved to second on a ground out by Cesar Galvez, then Dahl brought him in with a ground out to make it 1-0.

Warner entered the game in the bottom of the fifth, and he was greeted by a leadoff triple by Travis Lane. He got Alaberto Mondesi to line out to second, and he struck out Carlos Garcia, but Elier Hernandez singled to tie the game at 1.

In the next inning, the Rockies regained the lead. With 1 out, Julian Yan reached on an infield single. Ben Waldrip followed by reaching base on an error. Both runners scored when Jason Stolz doubled to give the Rockies a 3-1 lead, and they added an unearned run in the eighth to make it 4-1.

The Rockies will complete their season opening road trip in Idaho Falls tomorrow night against the Chukars. First pitch is set for 7:15 from Melaleuca Field.
