Ivan De Jesus, Jr. Named to 2008 Futures Game World Roster

June 30, 2008
Jacksonville, FL - Suns shortstop Ivan De Jesus, Jr., has been selected to the World Roster of the 2008 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game. The Futures Game, held in Yankee Stadium during the Major League Baseball All-Star celebration, pits up-and-coming stars from the United States against prospects from around the world.

The selection of De Jesus is the third Suns infielder featured on the World Team infielder in the last five seasons, following Joel Guzman in 2004 and 2006, and Chin-Lung Hu, who went on to win Futures Game MVP honors last year.

Leading De Jesus and the rest of the World roster this year is Tino Martinez, two-time All-Star and four-time World Series champion. Rafael Chaves, Pat Listach, Scott Little, Larry Parrish, John Stearns and Carlos Subero join him as coaches in the World dugout. The Futures Game will be played on Sunday, July 13, at Yankee Stadium.

De Jesus, Jr., the son of 15-year Major League veteran Ivan De Jesus, will represent Puerto Rico on the World roster. He enters his first season in Double-A after batting .287 with four home runs and a career-high 52 RBI with Single-A Inland Empire in 2007. Rated the 13th-highest prospect and as having the best strike zone discipline in the Dodgers organization, De Jesus is currently batting .304 for the Suns this season.
