Jamestown Falls To Batavia In Ninth
Brent Keys led the Jamestown offense with two hits including his second double of the season, and catcher Austin Barnes added a two bagger, a run scored and two walks.
In what has become a recurring theme for the Jammers, the Muckdogs jumped out to an early advantage with three runs in the third.
David Medina singled then Virgil Hill belted a home run to left field to make it 2-0 Batavia. Jordan Rasmus would triple with two outs and score on a single by Roberto Reyes to extend the lead.
It looked like that would be all the Muckdogs would need as Todd McInnis allowed one hit and shut down the Jammers through five inning, but the bullpen coughed up a Muckdog advantage for the second night in a row in the top of the eighth inning.
Barnes walked to start the frame and moved to third on a double by Ryan McIntyre. Yefri Perez followed with a single to get the Jammers on the board. Then, Keys doubled to score a run and put runners back at second and third. Pedro Mendoza delivered a RBI ground out to tie the game and move Keys to third, but he was left stranded there.
It was the Jamestown backstop that tried to jump start the offense again in the ninth when Barnes doubled with two outs; however, the next two batters were retired to leave him at second.
In the bottom of the ninth, Batavia would strike without an out being recorded. Cesar Valera reached on an infield single then advanced to second on a walk. Rasmus followed with a bunt single to load the bases before Reyes walked to force in the game-winning run.
Albaro Estevez took the loss for the Jammers to fall to 0-1 after giving up the winning run in the ninth. Greg Nappo made his second scoreless appearance for Jamestown, while Stephen Richards bounced back from a tough outing on Saturday with two hitless innings.
Corey Baker earned the win for the Muckdogs after tossing the ninth inning.
Rasmus paced the Batavia attack with three hits including the triple. Medina added two hits, and Mike O'Neill had three walks.
The two teams will meet for the rubber match tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Dwyer Stadium. Batavia and Jamestown will then head to Jamestown for three more games starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
