JetHawks will have multiple representatives in All-Star game

June 10, 2011
JetHawks starting pitcher Jake Buchanan and first baseman Kody Hinze have been selected to the California League roster for the upcoming California League/Carolina League All-Star game, which will take place at Modesto's John Thurman Field June 21. The JetHawks have multiple players on the mid-season All-Star team for the first time since 2008 when Lancaster had three representatives in the game.

Hinze is among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He is tied for the league lead in home runs (14) and leads the league in walks (51). Additionally, he ranks second in the circuit in on-base percentage (.473) and fifth in slugging percentage (.623). The Houston native was named California League Player-of-the-Week for the week of May 30 through June 5, becoming the first JetHawk to earn Player-of-the-Week or Pitcher-of-the-Week honors in 2011.

Buchanan's four wins are the most of any Lancaster pitcher. The right-hander also leads the league in innings pitched (76.0) and is tied for the league lead in complete games (1). He ranks third in WHIP (1.18) and ninth in ERA (3.79) and has tossed the only shutout in the California League this season. The Dallas, N. C. native is in his first full professional season after being selected by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of N.C. State.

The California League All-Stars will be seeking their third straight win in the annual contest against the Carolina League All-Stars. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. in Modesto.
