July 31: Legends of Wrestling

July 29, 2010
Let's get ready to rumble! The Flying Squirrels will be hosting Legends of Wrestling Night at The Diamond on Saturday, July 31st. There will be special appearances from some wrestling legends and fun to be had for all.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Jerry "The King" Lawler will be on hand for autographs and photo opportunities from the crowd.

Duggan, best known for using a 2x4 piece of wood in the ring, began his career with the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in 1972, and wrestled for the better part of his career with the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Over the course of his career, Duggan has been named the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion and WCW World Television Champion.

Lawler began his career in professional wrestling in 1970, winning the Southern Title six times in eight years starting in 1974. In May of 1988, Lawler defeated Curt Henning for the AWA World Title, going on to win the world heavyweight title afterwards. He currently works for WWE Raw as a color commentator, while still wrestling from time to time.

Be sure to check out the concourse tables located on the main concourse. There will be a launch-a-ball table, as well as one for Village Bank.

Tennis balls will be available for purchase on the main concourse throughout the game to give fans a chance to win great prizes post-game from local restaurants and shops. Since it's a weekend, all kids 14 and under will also be invited to run the bases following launch-a-ball courtesy of the RoomStore.

Where's Parney will also be taking place Saturday night after the game. The Flying Squirrels' Vice President and COO Todd "Parney" Parnell will be out on the town and the first 20 fans to find him will win a t-shirt. Clues are given throughout the week of Parney's whereabouts. Clue one: What do you call cheese that isn't yours? Log on to SquirrelsBaseball.com and find a list of participating restaurants located on the left-hand side.

If the Squirrels score six runs or more, all fans will be going home with a coupon for a free 8-inch personal cheese pizza from Papa John's! Extra innings will also have extra perks for the Squirrels with a coffee coupon from WaWa.

First pitch Saturday night is scheduled for 6:35 PM with gates opening at 5:00 for live entertainment provided by The Lost Souls. Great seats still remain and can be purchased by calling (804)359-FUNN(3866), visiting the Flying Squirrels' Ticket Office located at The Diamond, or by logging on to SquirrelsBaseball.com.
