August 1, 2007
Jair Jurrjens hurled a three-hitter for his first shutout in more than three years Wednesday as the Erie SeaWolves blanked the New Britain Rock Cats, 5-0.

Jurrjens (6-5) struck out 10 and did not walk a batter for the second straight start. The 21-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.32 and has 90 strikeouts and 30 walks in 105 2/3 innings.

A native of Curacao, Jurrjens hurled a seven-inning shutout on July 23, 2004, while pitching in the Gulf Coast League. This was his third career complete game.

Michael Hollimon opened the scoring in the fifth with a solo homer, his 11th. Steve Torrealba lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh and ripped a solo homer, his eighth, in the ninth for the SeaWolves (62-46).

New Britain starter Oswaldo Sosa (0-1) surrendered three runs -- one earned -- on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven frames.

Garrett Guzman, Matt Moses and Brandon Roberts had the hits for the Rock Cats (51-55).
