Kaminsky, Peterson among best of June

First-round Draft picks shine for Peoria and High Desert

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Minor League Baseball announced today the top players in each of its full-season leagues for the month of June. Each recipient will receive an award from MiLB and a congratulatory letter from Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O'Conner. The winners and their on-field accomplishments for the month of June are as follows:

Jose Pirela of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders was first in the International League in hits (40) and second in triples (2). The second baseman placed in the league's top 10 performers with 21 runs, four home runs and five stolen bases. Pirela was also named IL Player of the Week on June 2.

Brennan Boesch led the Pacific Coast League in both batting average (.405) and slugging percentage (.786), earning him the PCL Player of the Week honor on June 23. The Salt Lake Bees right fielder also ranked first in the league with 24 RBIs and 16 extra-base hits. His triples (2), home runs (7) and total bases (66) were all a second best in the PCL.

Sean Coyle recorded 15 extra-base hits and 60 total bases, the best in the Eastern League. The Portland Sea Dogs second baseman was second in home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.652). Coyle is one of three June Player of the Month honorees, along with D.J. Peterson and Jose Berrios, tapped to play in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game from Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 13.

Jake Lamb was selected as a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star and Player of the Week on back-to-back days in June and ended the month first in RBIs (27) and triples (4) in the SL. His .695 slugging percentage as a member of the Mobile BayBears also topped the league. The third baseman was second in the league in extra-base hits (19), total bases (66) and doubles (11).

Lane Adams of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals was the Texas League leader in extra-base hits (17) and total bases (63). His seven home runs were second best in the League. The right fielder's doubles (9), RBIs (19), hits (31) stolen bases (9) and slugging percentage (.636) were also within the top five of the league. Adams was selected as a TL Mid-Season All-Star on June 23 and Player of the Week the following week.

D.J. Peterson led the California League in RBIs (33) and slugging percentage (.838). The High Desert Mavericks third baseman's 17 extra-base hits and eight home runs were second best in the league. Peterson will play for the U.S. Team in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday. He was promoted to the Jackson Generals on July 3 after being named CAL Player of the Week twice this season.

Michael Burgess paced the Carolina League in extra-base hits (19) and total bases (73) as a member of the Frederick Keys. His nine homers and .820 slugging percentage were also the best in their respective categories, and his triples (3) were second best in the league. The June Player of the Month Award is his second accolade of the season, as he was named CAR Player of the Week on June 16.

Jose Berrios went 4-1 with a complete game shutout on June 1 vs. the Tampa Yankees. He pitched a total of 41 innings in June, while only giving up 24 hits and eight runs. The RHP struck out an impressive 53 batters, walking only five. Before being promoted to New Britain in early July, Berrios was honored twice as the FSL Pitcher of the Week and named a Mid-Season All-Star while with the Fort Myers Miracle. He will suit up for the World Team in the 2014 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game this weekend.

Rob Kaminsky of the Peoria Chiefs went a perfect 4-0 with a league-leading .89 ERA in 30.1 innings tossed. Giving up only three earned runs in the Midwest League, the LHP struck out 28 batters, while walking only three.

Jordan Patterson led the South Atlantic League with a .659 slugging percentage, while his .407 batting average was second best. The Asheville Tourists outfielder smacked 37 hits, 11 of them doubles, putting him at first and second best, respectively, in those categories. He was also named the SAL Player of the Week on June 30.
