Kemp homers in rehab with 'Topes

All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp remains on track to rejoin the Dodgers early next week after playing five innings in the first of two Minor League rehab assignments.

Kemp went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored in the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes' 11-9 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks on Sunday.

He ripped an RBI single to left field in the first inning, and he scored on Juan Rivera's ensuing home run. The 27-year-old then added a two-out, two-run homer to right field off Paul Clemens in the second frame before striking out swinging on five pitches in the fourth.

The 6-foot-4 Oklahoma native also recorded one putout on defense on the only ball hit to center field before being replaced by Matt Angle in the sixth frame.

Kemp, who has a .359 average with 28 RBIs and two stolen bases in 34 games this year, will wrap his his assignment on Monday when the Isotopes conclude their four-game series at home with the RedHawks.

He experienced tightness in his hamstring on May 5 in the middle of a three-game set with the Chicago Cubs, but he remained on the team's active roster and played in each of the club's next seven games.

But Kemp -- who was tied for the National League lead with 12 homers at the time -- reaggravated the strain trying to beat out an infield hit in the Dodgers' 11-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on May 13. He was placed on the disabled list on May 15 following an MRI.

The two-time Gold Glove Award winner and Silver Slugger is expected to be activated from the DL on Tuesday, the first day he is eligible to return to the Dodgers.

Kemp has been in the Majors since 2006. In 821 games, the outfielder is a career .296 hitter with 140 homers, 485 RBIs and 270 steals. Last year, Kemp led the National League in homers (39), RBIs (126) and runs scored (115). He finished second in the MVP voting to Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.

On Sunday, Fernando Nieve (2-2) allowed a run on three hits and a walk while fanning seven batters over five innings. Shortstop Aaron Miles was 3-for-5 with an RBI and first baseman Jeff Baisley went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Batting fourth and playing left field, Rivera -- who has been on the disabled list since May 9 with a left hamstring strain -- was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs in five innings. He was also hit by a Paul Clemens pitch in the second. Oklahoma City starter Clemens (5-4) yielded eight runs on 11 hits and a walk while fanning eight Isotopes over 5 1/3 frames. Third baseman Scott Moore went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the losing effort.
