Frederick Explodes for 10 Runs on 13 Hits
April 7, 2012

FREDERICK, MD - Pounding out 10 runs on 13 hits, the Frederick Keys rolled over the Salem Red Sox by a score of 10-4.

Scoring runs in all but three innings, the Keys blew things open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to extend their 5-2 lead to a commanding 9-2 advantage.

From there, the Keys went into cruise control, grabbing their first win of the season and evening their record to 1-1.

Starting pitcher Scott Copeland was flawless, not allowing an earned run through five innings and giving up just two hits to get the win.

The Keys' big fifth inning got started with a Jeremy Nowak double followed by a Mike Flacco RBI single. An Aaron Baker double brought in another run before Ty Kelly singled in the Keys' third run of the inning. Two batters later, Bobby Stevens brought in a run with an RBI groundout to give the Keys a secure 9-2 lead.

With the big 9-2 lead, the Keys' relief pitching gave up just two runs to help preserve the win.

Stevens, in the eighth inning, put an exclamation point on the game when he blasted a pitch over all three tiers of fencing at Harry Grove Stadium to give the Keys their tenth run of the game.

The Keys close out their series with Salem at 2:00 on Sunday at Harry Grove Stadium. RHP Mike Wright is expected to take the mound for Frederick. He'll face RHP Miguel Celestino in the Easter Sunday rubber match.
