Lake County Advances To Semi-Finals

(Bowling Green, KY) -Bryson Myles scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the tenth inning as The Lake County Captains defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 5-4 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Myles led off the inning with a single and used his speed to steal second base. Myles was sacrificed to third and took off when he saw the by skip by the catcher. Myles slid feet first and scored the go-ahead run. Enosil Tejada struck out the side to preserve the win in the bottom of the 10th.

The Captains jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Francisco Lindor tripled with one out in the opening frame. Jordan Smith grounded out to shortstop and Lindor scored from third and Lake County held the lead.

Lake County extended the lead in the second inning. Bryson Myles doubled to lead off and Tyler Naquin was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base with nobody out. Alex Lavisky reached first on an infield single and the bases were loaded. Jose Ramirez singled to center and Myles and Naquin scored. The Captains led 3-0.

Jeff Malm got the Hot Rods closer in the third inning. Todd Glaesmann singled with two outs to put a runner on first base. Jeff Malm connected with a homerun. Malm hit four homers against the Captains in the regular season and added one in the playoffs, this one a two run homer and the score was 3-2 Captains.

Lake County added a run when Jose Ramirez scored on a Jordan Smith single and the Captains led the ballgame 4-2. The Hot Rods tied the game when the bases were loaded in the seventh inning and there were two outs. Juniel Querecuto hit a ground rule double to left field and the game was even at 4-4.

RHP Mason Radeke (0-0) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Radeke pitched three and one third innings. Radeke allowed nine hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts. He also allowed the homerun to Jeff Malm. Louis Head pitched three and two thirds innings in relief allowing two hits and two un-earned runs. Head walked two and fanned five. Cody Penny pitched a perfect inning. Manny Carmona (1-0) pitched the ninth and allowed one hit but then retired the side. Carmona got the win.

RHP Ryan Carpenter (0-0) got the nod for the Hot Rods and did not get a decision. Carpenter pitched three and two thirds innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs, one walk and six strikeouts. Anthony Bellatti and Nick Sawyer did not allow a run. Austin Hubbard (0-1) took the loss after un-corking the wild pitch and watching Bryson Myles score from third in the tenth inning.

The Captains advanced to the Midwest League Eastern Division Championship Series where they will take on the Fort Wayne Tincaps. Lake Count and Fort Wayne each won 6 games a piece against each other during the regular season. No pitching matchup or game time has been announced for Saturday Night's Game 1 in Fort, Wayne, IN.
