Lake County Blanks Lansing 6-0

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (31-25, 62-63) defeated the Lansing Lugnuts (29-26, 76-48) by a final of 6-0. LHP Danny Jimenez (2-3) started the ballgame for the Captains and got the win. Jimenez pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk and he fanned five. Jimenez gave way to Cody Penny who pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Enosil Tejada picked up his sixth save of the season to close the door. The Captains won the four game series.

Luigi Rodriguez had two hits in the ballgame. The big hit was a one out triple down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jerrud Sabourin and Jake Lowery who both walked raced around the bases to score. It was a 2-0 Captains lead heading to the fifth inning.

Lake County scored four in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Captains sent eight men to the plate in the inning. With two outs, and the bases loaded Jose Ramirez hit a looping line drive to short, but the shortstop Shane Opitz dropped the ball. Two runs came around to score and it was 4-0 Captains. Francisco Lindor then lined a double to right field and two more runs came home to score and Lake County scored four un-earned runs and led the ballgame 6-0 headed to the ninth.

RHP Noah Syndergaard (7-5) started the ballgame for Lansing and took the loss. Syndergaard pitched three and one third innings, two hits, and two earned runs. He also walked four and struck out three. The Lugnuts bullpen went on to pitch four and two thirds innings and allowed four un-earned runs on the error with two outs in the eighth inning, and then the Lindor double. All four un-earned runs were charged to Ajay Meyer.

On Wednesday, The Captains will open up a four game set against South Bend. Lake County will send RHP Mason Radeke (6-6, 3.52) to the mound to face LHP Keith Hessler (2-2, 2.49) of the Silver Hawks. First pitch will be at 7:00 PM.
