Las Vegas To Host 2008 Baseball Winter Meetings, December 8-11

LAS VEGAS: The city of Las Vegas has been selected as the host city for the 2008 Baseball Winter Meetings, it was announced on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at a press conference at Cashman Field. The winter meetings will be held from December 8-11.

At the press conference for the announcement were: Don Logan, President/General Manager of the Las Vegas 51s; Rossi Ralenkotter, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President/CEO; Mayor Oscar Goodman and Pat O'Conner, then Vice President of Administration and COO of Minor League Baseball.

Each year the Winter Meetings attract approximately 4,000 individuals, including top major league and minor league executives, and representatives from companies exhibiting at the Meeting's Baseball Trade Show, the largest baseball related trade show in the world.

Other Baseball Winter Meeting events include the Professional Baseball Employment Opportunities Job Fair, daily press conferences, awards ceremonies and the Rule 5 Draft.

2008 will mark the first time Las Vegas has ever hosted the Baseball Winter Meetings. In addition, to the 4,000 individuals expected to attend, there is an estimated non-gaming economic impact of $6.3 million.

The Las Vegas Hilton and Bellagio will be the host hotels for the Baseball Winter Meetings and the Las Vegas Convention Center will be site for the Baseball Trade Show.
