Late Mustang Rally Dooms Owlz

Pardo Throws Out Three On Base Paths
July 11, 2009
A ninth inning Billings rally lifted the Mustangs to a 6-4 win over the Orem Owlz Friday night in Orem.

Leading 3-2 going into the ninth inning the Mustangs' got a pinch hit solo home run from Josh Garton off Reyes Dorado (0-1) to tie the game at three. Billings would continue to put the pressure on in the frame tagging Dorado with three more runs to increase the margin to 6-3.

The Owlz got one back in the bottom of the ninth but a Tyler Mann ground out with the bases loaded ended the contest and split the four-game series at two wins apiece.

"We don't have the bullpen that we've had here in the past," Owlz Manager Tom Kotchman said.

Braulio Pardo was a bright spot for the Orem Owlz defense, as he threw out Mustangs on the base paths.

"It's a shame to lose a game like this because Pardo just about won it by himself throwing out runners," Kotchman said. "That's his strength. His best tool is his arm."

"That's my job to throw runners out," Pardo said deflecting the praise away from his individual performance. "It is tough losing a game like that but we'll be ready to play tomorrow."

Justin Bass finished with two hits including a two RBI double in the seventh which gave the Owlz the brief 3-2 lead.

"I'm trying to be more relaxed at the plate asking how I can really help the team," Bass said. "I'm being patient and not trying to do too much."

The Owlz (9-8) will now face the Great Falls Voyagers (10-7) in a three-game series beginning Saturday in Orem.
