LeBlanc polishes off RoughRiders

Strikes out 10 over six innings in Missions' 5-0 blanking
September 8, 2007
Wade LeBlanc continued a dominant stretch with his best performance yet on Friday, pitching the San Antonio Missions into the Texas League Championship Series for the first time since 2003.

LeBlanc struck out 10 over six masterful innings as the Missions blanked the Frisco RoughRiders, 5-0, to complete a three-game sweep of their first-round playoff series.

LeBlanc (1-0) yielded only two hits and didn't walk a batter to win his fifth straight start since Aug. 17. He has posted a 0.93 ERA over that span and beat the RoughRiders on Aug. 22.

The 23-year-old left-hander retired 15 straight batters after Chris Davis doubled with two outs in the first. Brandon Boggs singled in the sixth to break the string.

Kyle Stutes, Jonathan Ellis, Paul Abraham and Edwin Moreno combined to allow three hits while striking out three over the final three frames. The Missions bullpen yielded five hits and walked two over eight scoreless frames in the series.

Brett Dowdy went 2-for-4 and ripped a solo homer, his second of the series, in the sixth. Will Venable had a pair of RBI singles, while Chase Headley and Luis Cruz drove in a run apiece for San Antonio.

Frisco starter Scott Shoemaker (0-1) had a personal five-game winning streak snapped after allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Davis went 2-for-4 for the RoughRiders, who led the league with an 85-55 record in the regular season.

Frisco manager Dave Anderson and catcher Kevin Richardson were ejected after the fifth.

San Antonio hosts Springfield in Game 1 of the Championship Series on Tuesday.
