Legends' anthem tryouts Feb. 9-10

December 21, 2012
(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) It's a long-standing American tradition: the Star-Spangled Banner, followed by a baseball game.

For the Lexington Legends, that tradition is renewed each year beginning in February with tryouts for the national anthem performances that will take place before Legends' home games at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The Legends, in partnership with ESPN Sports Radio 1300 and LEX18 (WLEX-TV), will hold the annual tryouts at Fayette Mall February 9 and 10 in the wing of the mall near Dick's Sporting Goods. Each participant will sing or play the anthem, and those selected by the judges will perform the anthem before a Legends' home game during the 2013 season.

The tryouts will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 10. Chris Cross, Mike Cameron and Matthew Laurance, hosts of "Sports Huddle" weekdays from 4-7 p.m. on ESPN Sports Radio 1300, will serve as masters of ceremonies. LM Communications Group General Manager Jim MacFarlane and other local media personalities as well as Legends' staff members will serve as judges.

"The Legends staff and our fans look forward to the national anthem auditions every February," said Lauren Shrader, Legends' promotions coordinator. "For us, it means baseball is just around the corner. We are excited to be holding the auditions in such a great public location for our fans to have access to. We invite fans of all ages to warm up their vocal cords and instruments, and come 'wow' us with their talents. This is a great opportunity for our fans to be involved in the game and for the Legends to be involved in the community."

The Legends, a class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and a member of the South Atlantic League, will open the home schedule Monday, April 8 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the Asheville Tourists, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
