Legends Rally Late to Foil Suns 6-3

Lexington, KY - The Hagerstown Suns (17-14) watched three one-run leads slip away throughout the course of the game, and eventually suffered a 6-3 loss to the Lexington Legends (14-16) at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

Suns starting pitcher Nathan Karns struck out eight batters over four innings in his first start of the season, allowing two runs on four hits and ending up with a no-decision. Lefty Christian Meza (2-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 2.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen.

Right fielder Caleb Ramsey went 1-for-2 with two RBIs while catcher Adrian Nieto knocked in the other Suns' run. Centerfielder Bill Burns extended his on-base streak to 23 consecutive games with a single.

Lexington's Zach Johnson matched the Suns' Matt Skole for the South Atlantic League lead in RBIs with three in the game, raising his total to 34 on the season. Johnson finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a home run and the game-winning two-run single in the seventh inning.

Legends reliever Murilo Gouvea earned the win with 2.1 innings of hitless relief, striking out five consecutive batters to finish his outing. Dayan Diaz notched his fifth save of the season after allowing the tying run to come to the plate in the ninth. Starter Jonas Dufek did not factor in the decision, allowing three runs over 5.2 innings pitched.

The Suns will play game two against the Lexington Legends on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Alex Meyer (2-3) faces-off against Lexington's RHP Nick Tropeano (2-2).
