Lemon Helps Sour Mavs' Day

April 27, 2008

Marcus Lemon went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and Jared Hyatt gave the Blaze six strong innings as Bakersfield defeated the Mavs 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Mavericks Stadium. Both teams now own identical 12-12 records.

Bakersfield scored first in the second inning despite not recording a hit. The Mavs tied it in the third on a two-out RBI single by Carlos Perguero. The hit extended Peguero's hitting streak to seven games.

Just as it did Saturday night, the Blaze put together a rally in the fourth inning. Lemon broke the tie with a two-out RBI single, and Grant Gerrard followed with a two-run double to make it 4-1.

The Blaze added another in the sixth on Lemon's second RBI single of the day. He was on base four times and raised his average from .276 to .333.

The Mavs scored once more in the sixth on a Leury Bonilla RBI double, but they would not get any closer than 5-2.

Hyatt, making only the second start of his career, gave up two runs over six innings. Reliever Ryan Falcon pitched the final three innings earning his first save of the year.

Mavs starter Keith Renaud (0-3) had trouble finding the strike zone once again. He walked five in five innings, and each walk was on four pitches.

The Mavs will look for a series split Monday night at 7:05 p.m. For tickets or to learn about one of the Mavs many great ticket packages, call 246-MAVS.
