Liz solid, but Tides blanked Sunday

August 2, 2009
Norfolk was held to five singles as they were blanked by four Syracuse pitchers 3-0 Sunday night at Harbor Park.

Marco Estrada (6-4) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win, with Estrada and three relievers combining to retire the final 11 Tides batters of the contest.

Melvin Dorta had three of Norfolk's five hits, while Joey Gathright and Michael Aubrey each added a base hit apiece.

Radhames Liz (0-3) was effective in his first start back with the Tides since he was promoted from Bowie earlier in the week. Liz yielded just two earned runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work, walking one and striking out one while throwing 72 of his 107 pitches for strikes.

The Tides and Chiefs will meet again at Harbor Park on Monday night, as Jake Arrieta (3-4, 4.70) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Andrew Kown (2-0, 3.70). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15.
