Lookouts to be Well Represented in AZ Fall League
Lambo, Guerra, Mitchell, May, Sellers, Schlichting, and Robinson to Play in AFL
DENVER -- Eight Dodgers farmhands, including outfield prospect Andrew Lambo, have been placed on the roster of the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.
The 18th annual Arizona Fall League season begins on Oct. 13 and runs through Nov. 19 with the Rising Stars game on Nov. 7 and the Championship game set for Nov. 21. Every game can be followed live on Gameday on MLB.com and MLBFallBall.com.
Three of the Dodgers prospects chosen are right-handed pitchers -- Javy Guerra, Eric Krebs and Travis Schlichting. The others are catcher Lucas May, infielders Russell Mitchell and Justin Sellers and outfielders Lambo and Trayvon Robinson.
Schlichting is the only one with any Major League service time, and it was brief -- three weeks this year. He was sidelined during Spring Training with a bulging disk that flared up again last month, and he just returned to competition last week. The converted third baseman had been considered a long shot to make the Major League bullpen in Spring Training until his injury.
Lambo, a power-hitting outfielder, was listed as the organization's top prospect going into this season by Baseball America, but he has had a lackluster season at Double-A Chattanooga, hitting .257 with 11 homers and 55 RBIs.
The exciting Robinson is a speedy outfielder who elevated his game at Class A Inland Empire. He's hitting .306 with 15 homers and 43 steals, but he also has 125 strikeouts.
May has had a bounce-back year at Double-A Chattanooga after a disappointing 2008 season, batting .292 despite missing time with a hairline fracture of his wrist.
Guerra split time this year between Great Lakes -- where he had 16 saves and a 1.54 ERA -- and Chattanooga, where he had a 4.09 ERA.
Krebs was acquired from the Pirates in exchange for outfielder Delwyn Young. He had a 2.70 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 20 innings at Inland Empire after being acquired.
Mitchell is a power-hitting corner infielder whose production was down across the board this year in his second full season at Double-A, hitting .237 with 12 homers and 54 RBIs.
Sellers is a shortstop who hit .286 for Double-A Chattanooga in his first year in the organization after starting with Oakland.
