Loons Double Up Captains 4-2

(Midland, MI) - The Lake County Captains (34-28, 65-66) lost to the Great Lakes Loons (26-36, 62-70) by a final of 4-2. The Captains stranded nine more runners on base on Sunday afternoon and have now left 20 on base during the first two games at Dow Diamond. The Captains have a record of 8-12 on Sundays this season and have dropped the first two in the current four game series.

In the first inning, Great Lakes scored. Jesus Arredondo singled and so did Joe Winker. O'Kyea Dickson doubled home Arredondo and it was 1-0 Loons. With runners on second and third Jimenez balked home run number two and it was 2-0 Loons. Nick Akins scored Dickson from third by lacing the next pitch, up the middle, and Great Lakes held the 3-0 lead.

Lake County scored in the top of the third inning. Leonardo Castillo doubled with one out and scored with two outs when Francisco Lindor singled and the score was 3-1. Great Lakes made it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the fourth when Tyler Ogle circled the bases for the second time this season. The homerun put the Loons back on top by three runs at 4-1.

The Captains cut the lead in the seventh inning. The bases were loaded and there was nobody out, and Francisco Lindor hit the ball on the ground to short. The Loons turned their 92nd double play of the season, but a run came home to score and it was 4-2.

LHP Danny Jimenez (2-4) started the game for the Captains and took the loss. Jimenez pitched six innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Jimenez committed one balk, allowed one homerun and hit one batter. Cody Penny pitched two scoreless innings allowing two hits with two strikeouts.

RHP Duke von Schamann (4-4) got the nod for the Loons and earned the win. Duke von Schamann pitched five innings allowing four hits, one earned run, two walks and seven strikeouts. The bullpen combined for four innings of relief, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk and two strikeouts. The Loons used three pitchers out of the bullpen including Daniel Carela, who earned his first save of the season.

On Monday, The Captains will remain in Midland, Michigan to play the third game of a four game series with the Great Lakes Loons. The Captains will send RHP Mason Radeke (6-7, 5.24) to the mound to face RHP Joel Lima (1-0, 5.07) for the Loons. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
