Lorin, 'pen combine on Marauders gem

Brett Lorin has had limited success in a starter's role for Bradenton this year. But Tuesday's sterling outing could change that.

Lorin carried a no-hit bid into the fifth inning, eventually surrendered two hits and fanning six over six frames as Bradenton blanked Lakeland, 9-0, on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander gave up a single to Corey Jones with one out in the fifth, but he fanned Ryan Soares and got Julio Rodriguez to ground out to end the frame.

The California native worked around a one-out double by Brent Wyatt in the sixth en route to his second Florida State League win of the season. The 6-foot-7 right-hander has started four of the nine games he's appeared in, but yielded 11 runs in 9 2/3 frames in those outings.

A former fifth-round pick by the Mariners in 2008, Lorin was traded to Pittsburgh in the July 29, 2009 deal that sent Jack Wilson and Ian Snell to Seattle.

Eliecer Navarro added 2 2/3 hitless innings, fanning two, and Jason Erickson retired the only batter he faced to complete the two-hitter.

Calvin Anderson was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and fell a triple shy of the cycle. Jarek Cunningham blasted his 10th homer of the season and Aaron Baker scored twice for the Marauders.
