Lozada with only Sens Hit in 6-0 Loss

August 8, 2012
The Harrisburg Senators were one-hit on Wednesday night in their 6-0 loss at the hands of the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Jose Lozada doubled with two-outs in the eighth inning off Richmond reliever Tom Vessella breaking up the Flying Squirrels no-hit bid. Mike Kickham started for Richmond and tossed seven hitless and scoreless innings while walking two and striking out.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Kickham received help on back to back defensive plays. First Sean Nicol drove a ball into the right center field gap that Nick Liles tracked down with a diving catch. Then Jimmy VanOstrand bounced a ball up the middle that Daniel Mayora made a terrific play on throwing out VanOstrand at first.

The Senators didn't hit another ball hard until Lozada's double in the eighth.

The only other Senators to reach base were Nicol with a walk in the first and VanOstrand on a walk in the seventh.

Richmond scored four more two out runs on Wednesday night giving them eight in the two games in Richmond. Kickham was coming off an 8.1 inning outing in which he allowed just three hits.

Kevin Pucetas started for the Sens and took the loss. The Senators fall to 55-62, which puts them seven games under .500 for the first time this season.

The final game of the series in Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on all mobile phones with the iHeart Radio app beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
