LANSING, Mich. -- The Lansing Lugnuts announced Monday that Michigan State sophomore Jennifer Swanchara will serve as the team's new public address announcer at Cooley Law School Stadium.

A native of Berkley, Mich., Swanchara is currently majoring in broadcast journalism at MSU. She brings a wealth of broadcast experience, handling volleyball and women's basketball color analysis for Big Ten Network Student U Productions, interning at WILX TV-10, and serving as a DJ on Impact 88.9 FM.

"Jennifer impressed us with her poise, instincts and technical ability," said Lugnuts director of marketing, Jeremy Smoker. "We'll be excited to introduce her as the voice of Cooley Law School Stadium at the Crosstown Showdown."

As stadium public address announcer, Jennifer Swanchara will handle all ballpark announcements and music playback during games.

"I'm looking forward to working with the Lugnuts, having my voice heard and making strides as a woman in the sports media field," said Swanchara.

Swanchara joins a select group of female P.A. announcers in professional baseball, including Adrienne Roberson of the Bowie Baysox. The only current Major League female P.A. announcer is Renel Brooks-Moon with the World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

The Lansing Lugnuts face the Michigan State Spartans in the Crosstown Showdown presented by Auto-Owners Insurance at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, April 11. Lugnuts season ticket packages are available for purchase by calling 517-485-4500 or atwww.lansinglugnuts.com online.
