Lynn loses no-hit bid in seventh

Redbirds waste strong effort, fall in Oklahoma City
April 24, 2010
Lance Lynn spent much of Saturday night making a bid for history. By the time it was over, he was still seeking his first Triple-A win.

Lynn carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning but did not figure in the decision as the Memphis Redbirds squandered a three-run lead in an 8-7 loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks.

The former first-round pick retired the first 11 batters before walking Esteban German with two outs in the fourth inning. In the fifth, he issued a one-out walk to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was quickly erased on Mitch Moreland's double play.

Lynn needed 16 pitches to get through the sixth but walked Hernan Iribarren on four pitches to open the seventh. German grounded an 0-1 offering into center field for Oklahoma City's first hit, making Iribarren the first RedHawk to reach second base.

Chad Tracy chased Lynn with a two-run double and Saltalamacchia's sacrifice fly off Oneli Perez forged a 3-3 tie. Lynn was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks in six-plus innings. He struck out five.

In his last two starts, the 22-year-old right-hander has given up four runs on three hits over 12 innings to lower his ERA from 8.31 to 5.23.

Oklahoma City broke open the game with a five-run eighth capped by a three-run homer by Chris Davis, who was playing his first game since he was sent down by the Texas Rangers.

Daniel Descalso drove in three runs for Memphis and Jon Jay went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
