Machado delivers in first Class A game
Selected with the third overall pick last year, Machado plated what proved to be the eventual game-winning run when he legged out a one-out three-bagger in the bottom of the sixth inning.
MLB.com's No. 24 prospect also singled to right field in the fourth. He finished up 2-for-3.
The shortstop, considered the top pick of last year's high school Draft class, batted .359 with a homer and five RBIs over nine games between the Orioles' Gulf Coast League club and the Aberdeen IronBirds in the short-season New York-Penn League.
On Thursday, Greensboro got on the board in the top of the third. Third-rounder Jacob Realmuto led off with a triple that one-hopped the wall in right-center field and Pedro Mendoza grounded out to second to bring him home.
Delmarva responded in the sixth when Machado blasted his triple to the warning track in right-center.
The Shorebirds pitching staff held the Grasshoppers in check. Starter Luis Noel allowed one run on four hits over four innings and Chris Petrini (1-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief.
The Grasshoppers managed one hit over the final five innings as Kyle Schrader tossed a scoreless eighth and David Walters pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
