Macias, Kazmar slam 'Riders

Drew Macias and Sean Kazmar hit grand slams in a nine-run sixth inning to power the San Antonio Missions to a 14-6 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday.

With the score tied, 5-5, Kazmar hit the second of consecutive singles that loaded the bases in the sixth. Macias drilled a pitch from Randy Williams over the right-field fence for his fourth homer of the season.

Chase Headley followed the blast with a single and the Missions reloaded the bases with two outs as Will Venable singled and Tim Brown was hit by a pitch. Kazmar came up again and deposited another offering from Williams over the left-field fence to make it 13-5. It was his third homer.

The two slams were the only extra-base hits among 17 for the Missions (16-9). Every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit, with Headley going 4-for-5 and Macias going 3-for-5. Kazmar was one of three San Antonio players with two hits.

Frisco (15-10) belted three dingers, but two came with the bases empty. Anthony Webster smacked a solo shot in the first and went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Despite being charged with seven runs in one inning, Williams did not get the loss. That went to Matt Farnum (1-1), who put the first two men on base in the sixth and was charged with two runs on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 frames.

Frisco starter Luis Mendoza gave up four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

San Antonio's Joshua Geer (4-1) was the beneficiary of the sixth-inning explosion. He gave up five runs on seven hits in five innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
