NEW YORK -- Mariners Minor League third baseman Miguel Gamboa was suspended Friday after testing positive for a steroid.
The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said Gamboa received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension will be effective at the start of the Arizona League season in June.

Gamboa, 19, signed with the Mariners out of Mexico last February and appeared in 40 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. The switch-hitting infielder hit .261 with a homer, 18 RBIs, three doubles, three steals and a .387 OBP in 111 at-bats.
2017 Minor League drug suspensions
Nandrolone, commonly sold as Deca-Durabolin, is an anabolic steroid used to promote muscle growth, bone density and red blood cell production. It's considered a Schedule III controlled substance in the U.S.
Gamboa is the 30th player to be suspended this year by Major League Baseball for violating the Minor League drug program.
