Maron's Blast Helps Gnats Snap Skid 6-2 Friday

Savannah, GA - Cam Maron hit a three-run first inning homer to power the Gnats past the Rome Braves 6-2 Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium to snap Savannah's six-game losing streak. Savannah never trailed in a game that was delayed 40 minutes at the start by a rain showers.

The Gnats (25-34/66-60) took a 3-0 lead three batters into the bottom of the first inning on Maron's three-run homerun, his fifth of the year, to right field.

The Braves (37-21/55-73) got a run back in the top of the second inning on an RBI triple by RF Will Skinner to pull within two runs at 3-1.

The Gnats extended their lead to 5-1 with a two-run bottom of the second aided by two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Maron drove in his fourth run of the game with a bases loaded walk.

The Braves picked up a run back in the third inning when Gnats' starter Jimmy Fuller hit his second batter of the inning, to force in a run. Fuller lasted three innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five. Fuller gave way to Carlos Vazquez, who threw four scoreless innings for the win.

The Gnats and Braves play a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 Saturday to make up for Thursday's rainout. Savannah will send RHP Yohan Almonte (0-1, 16.20) to the mound in game one against RHP Greg Ross (6-8, 4.58). Game two will feature LHP Alex Panteliodis (4-7, 3.56) against RHP Navery Moore (7-3, 3.90). Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium will open at 4 pm. The radio broadcast, presented by Subway, begins at 4:45.
