Martinez stifles Zephyrs for victory

Righty picks up first win for Redbirds with six two-run frames

Second-ranked Cardinals prospect Carlos Martinez earned his first win of the season for Memphis on Wednesday, scattering two runs on seven hits without issuing a walk while striking out five in six frames in a 9-3 victory over New Orleans. Martinez has a 1.56 ERA in 17 1/3 innings for the Redbirds. He has struck out 17 strikeouts while walking five.

Rob Johnson went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in the win for Memphis.

No. 6 Rangers prospect Martin Perez (4-1) limited Albuquerque to one unearned run on eight hits without any walks and six strikeouts in six innings to lead Round Rock to a 4-2 victory.

Perez has registered a 2.10 ERA in 30 innings for the Express, fanning 27 and walking seven. Second-ranked Texas prospect Mike Olt went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

Brian Bogusevic homered twice and drove in four runs as Iowa dropped Oklahoma City, 5-1.

Chris Rusin (5-6) scattered five hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings to pick up the win for the Cubs.

No. 6 D-backs prospect Chris Owings went 3-for-6, raising his average to .346 in 65 games, with two runs scored and an RBI as Reno fell to Sacramento, 9-7.

Mike Jacobs also supplied three hits for the Aces and Scott Moore delivered a home run and three RBIs for the River Cats.

Johnny Monell fell a double short of the cycle and Jackson Williams delivered a game-winning single to score Monell in the 12th inning of a 5-4 win for Fresno over Tucson.
