MAY IS BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER

Frontier Field to host games on 26 of 31 days in May; Monroe County issues proclamation

ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Red Wings and Monroe County today proclaimed May as Baseball Month in Rochester. Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks made the announcement.

Frontier Field in downtown Rochester is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in May, the most of any calendar month during the baseball season. The Red Wings in 2012 are sharing Frontier Field with the Empire State Yankees while their home of PNC Field in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre undergoes a season-long renovation. A total of 109 games will be played at Frontier Field in 2012.

“This is a historic baseball season in Rochester with a record 109 games that we’re hosting, including 26 in May, which is the most for a month this season or in any season,” Mason said. “Quite simply, with so many games, it’s Baseball Month in Rochester. May will be a month unlike any other. We’ll have something for everyone, whether they’re a baseball purist, a casual fan, a hungry fan, or just a visitor of this great city and county.”

“Rochester Community Baseball has played a significant role in this city and county for more than a century,” Brooks said. “It still is Baseball City USA, and Baseball Month in Rochester celebrates that distinction even more. This is a unique opportunity for all fans of the game to be a part of something special.”

“The only thing better than baseball is more baseball,” said Red Wings President/CEO Naomi Silver. “This unique season, and month, is one we'll be taking about for years to come. Everyone will want to say they were a part of it."
