Mayo's Home Woes Continue; T's Fall 9-5

August 2, 2012

Tourists' starting pitcher Vianney Mayo has been one of the best pitchers in the South Atlantic League this season; on the road that is. Mayo is 4-0 with a 1.43 ERA when pitching away from McCormick Field. At home, it's been a different story. Mayo fell to 0-5 at home and his 7.20 McCormick Field ERA went further north after surrendering six runs in just four innings of work.

The Lexington Legends plated a run in each of the first two innings before exploding with four runs in the fourth. Zach Johnson had an RBI double and a two-run Homer for the visitors as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Brandon Meredith led off the fifth with a Home Run that put the Legends up 7-0. Tourists' reliever Geoff Parker quieted Lexington's bats by working four effective frames.

Asheville mounted a comeback which began with a two-run Home Run from Brian Humphries. Sam Mende hit a sacrifice fly making it 7-3 while David Kandilas hit an RBI single and an RBI double to cut the Legends lead to just two.

Lexington responded with two runs in the ninth and Asheville could not draw any closer in their last at-bat. The Legends won the series three games to one but the Tourists edged the season series 9-8.
