After the Marlins racked up five runs off starter Jenrry Mejia in the first, the Mets turned to No. 15 prospect Cory Mazzoni, who set down all nine batters he faced in order. A second-round pick out of North Carolina State in 2011, Mazzoni went 10-6 with a 3.93 ERA over 26 starts for Class A Advanced St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton last season. Top San Diego prospect Jedd Gyorko slugged his third homer in four games and No. 19 Kevin Quackenbush worked around a hit and a pair of walks in a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the spring. Gyorko, MLB.com's No. 50 prospect, is now batting .400 with nine RBIs. Padres right-hander Brad Boxberger -- ranked 18th in the team's Top 20 -- retired all four batters he faced in his second Cactus League appearance. MLB.com's No. 22 prospect Mike Olt slugged a two-run homer and Texas' top prospect Jurickson Profar scored twice and recorded an RBI in the loss. The South Siders got two runs and two RBIs from center fielder Trayce Thompson, the team's No. 2 prospect, and first-rounder Jared Mitchell -- ranked fifth on the list -- who recorded a hit and an RBI to lift his spring average to .429. Arizona's No. 9 prospect David Holmberg struck out one batter in a hitless five-pitch first inning in his spring debut. Prospects Matt Adams and Oscar Taveras starred for the Cardinals as they pounded the host Red Sox in Fort Myers. Adams, working his way back from a sore left knee that kept him out of drills last week, delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer in the sixth and a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, while the 20-year-old Taveras went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Rain halted play after six innings in Port Charlotte but not before top Rays prospect Wil Myers contributed a pair of singles in Tampa's 12-hit attack. Catching prospect Tommy Joseph, whom the Phillies acquired from San Francisco in the Hunter Pence deal last summer, provided the margin of victory with a two-out, two-run blast off New York's Zach Nuding in the seventh. A pair of top Twins prospects, outfielder Aaron Hicks and second baseman Eddie Rosario, had strong games as Minnesota evened its Grapefruit League record at 2-2. Leadoff man Hicks went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Rosario, a defensive replacement in the sixth inning, delivered a two-run shot and a single.
