McCutchen Dreadlocks Cap Paves Way For Unique Giveaways in 2012

Summer Cruise Series, Freebie Fridays return as part of 21-item giveaway schedule
March 6, 2012
CURVE, Pa. - By the end of the season a fan could leave a game at Peoples Natural Gas Field sporting their new Andrew McCutchen Dreadlocks Hat eating popcorn out of their Steamer Popcorn Bucket while wearing their favorite mascot campaign button.  Those are just some of the 21 items on the Altoona Curve giveaway schedule for 2012.  This season's giveaways pay tribute to past and future Curve players, each of the team's four mascots, the second volume of the award-nominated Summer Cruise Series, and more.   In addition to other various dates, each Friday home game beginning April 20 will feature a giveaway as part of the popular "Freebie Friday" series.

CutchCapHeadlining the list of unique items is the aforementioned Andrew McCutchen Dreadlocks Hat that will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans on July 6 thanks to Peoples Natural Gas.  The cap, inspired by the All-Star centerfielder who had his stay in Altoona in 2006 and 2007, will feature the classic Altoona "A" cap that McCutchen wore during his time in Altoona with McCutchen-like dreadlocks flowing out the back of the cap.

This item is one of two that features former Curve players that have made their ascent to Pittsburgh as the team will also try to help out Pirates' outfielder Alex Presley in his efforts to distinguish himself from the singer with the same last name.  Altoona will hand out an "Alex Not Elvis" Presley Figurine to the first 1,000 fans on July 27 thanks to the Mid Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program.  This one-of-a-kind figurine will feature the 2010 Curve outfielder in a Curve-inspired Elvis costume for fans to treasure.  On second thought, this giveaway might not "help" Alex.

ColeFireOther player-inspired giveaways on the docket for the upcoming season's giveaway schedule include the Starling Marte Canvas Painting Giveaway thanks to Holiday Inn Express (first 1,000 fans) on May 4 and the Gerrit Cole Fireball Giveaway presented by UniFirst (first 1,000 fans) on July 20.

"Our promotional team has once again come up with a really unique slate of giveaways for our fans to enjoy," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan.  "We'll pay tribute in a fun way to three of our former and future players, our four mascots, and a selection of Tom Cruise films from the 1990s with items that will make those in Curve, PA smile.  I can't wait to put on the dreads!"

For those fans that clamor for mascot giveaways, there will be a total of six freebie mascot items on the schedule this season.  Steamer, the club's first mascot, has had quite an obsession with popcorn over his first 13 seasons on the job so we thought it was fitting to giveaway a Steamer-inspired Popcorn Bucket to the first 1,000 fans on June 1 thanks to Lakemont Park.

Popcorn BucketThe Popcorn Bucket giveaway will go nicely with the Al Tuna Headband Giveaway that will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans (14 and under) on May 18 as the Curve take on Erie.  Al's Headband Giveaway will be an exact replica of the one the Curve's rally-mascot dons each and every time he emerges from the centerfield wall when the Curve score a run.

All the mascots will be in on the Mascot Campaign Button Set Giveaway that will go on throughout the election-year season.  The four giveaway dates for the campaign button set are: May 19 (Tenacious), June 25 (Diesel Dawg), July 21 (Steamer) and August 29 (Al Tuna).  The first 1,000 fans on each of the four giveaway nights will receive the designated mascot campaign button.

AlButtonNew at the ballpark in 2012 will be T.G.I. Friday's Mug Club Nights, which will take place at every Friday night game except for July 20th (it will take place on Saturday, July 21st instead).  There will be 250 lucky fans on each of the Mug Club Nights that will receive a T.G.I. Fridays Mug Club Mug to take home with them.  In addition, two Curve players will be at the T.G.I. Fridays in Altoona after each of the T.G.I. Friday's Mug Club Nights for one hour as part of the official Curve Extra Innings After Party.

Returning for its second season on the giveaway calendar will be the Summer Cruise Series presented by Nittany Travel.  Just like last season, there will be four dates each with their own giveaway item inspired by the Oscar-snubbed greatness of Tom Cruise films.  Fans must collect all four giveaway items and bring them back to the last game of the season on August 30 to be entered into a drawing for one 7-day Caribbean cruise for two thanks to Nittany Travel.

This season, the Cruise-inspired giveaway series has moved on to the 1990s to highlight some of the actor's most influential, moving and heart-pounding films.  The first Summer Cruise Night Giveaway will be held on June 14 as the first 500 fans (21 and up) will receive a Puzzle Cube Giveaway inspired by Cruise's portrayal of IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible.

CruiseLogoSecond on the list in the series will be the Mountain Dew Code Red T-Shirt Giveaway inspired by Cruise's role as Lt. Daniel Kaffee in the 1992 courtroom drama A Few Good Men.  The first 500 fans (21 and up) will get one of these T-shirts as they enter the gates on July 5 when Altoona takes on Reading.  Who ordered a Code Red?

A Toy Stock Car will be handed out to the first 500 fans (21 and up) thanks to Furrer Beverage on July 19 in the third installment of the four-part series.  The car pays tribute to Cruise's ability to turn left (and also to drive down pit road in reverse) in his role as hot-shot, rookie-sensation NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in 1990's Days of Thunder

The final giveaway in the series will take place August 9 when Altoona welcomes Bowie to town and the Curve celebrates Cruise's role as Jerry Maguire from the film of the same name.  To commemorate his performance in this Cameron Crowe-directed masterpiece, the first 500 fans (21 and up) will receive a two-sided Curve Kwan Poster thanks to Furrer Beverage, which pays homage to the term coined by Rod Tidwell meaning love, respect, community and money.
