Mike Feder Wins PCL Executive of the Year

Tucson Padres General Manager Mike Feder has been named 2013 Pacific Coast League Executive of the Year. The annual award is voted on by league general managers. This is the second PCL Executive of the Year Award for Feder, who also won in 1991 while running the Tucson Toros at Hi Corbett Field.

"Knowing it's the end of my 30-year career as a minor league general manager, this is a great send-off, the cherry on the sundae!" said Feder. "I want to thank my fellow executives for thinking of me. This award is a great acknowledgement of our staff's effort the past three years in Tucson."

Feder went on to say "I also want to thank the Tucson fans, sponsors and MountainStar Sports Group. This award signifies respect for the Tucson Padres era at Kino Stadium."

 "Mike's passion for minor league baseball, his love for the Tucson community, and commitment to his staff is truly inspiring," said Team President Alan Ledford. "This recognition reflects his dedication to our sport and Padres fans in Tucson. We salute and thank Mike and his staff for all their hard work."  

"Mike Feder's selection as PCL Executive of the Year is an endorsement of his standing in Triple-A Baseball. This vote was by his peers and recognizes not only the years of dedication but the character and skill with which he goes about keeping baseball an affordable family activity in the marketplace," said Branch B. Rickey, President of the Pacific Coast League. "Mike concludes his tenure in the PCL, not only distinguished as a successful executive, but as a cherished friend of so many in the industry."

Feder has also won Executive of the Year honors in the Single-A Midwest League, High-A Florida State League and twice in the Double-A Texas League. This is his sixth Executive of the Year award in his illustrious career. He will officially accept the award at the annual Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando this December.

Feder's other honors include being a 1998 Pima County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee and winning the Conquistadores Award in 1997 for long and meritorious service to the Tucson sports community. In addition to his 30 years in minor league baseball, Feder spent five seasons working for the NFL's New Orleans Saints and one season each running the Austin Wranglers and New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League.

Even though the Tucson Padres final season has ended, Feder still has his hand in southern Arizona professional baseball, as he is currently organizing the upcoming Mexican Baseball Fiesta at Kino Stadium. Mike also is overseeing the University of Arizona's exclusive Sands Club in the Lowell-Stevens Football Facility on game days.
