Nats' Hill shows off stuff in rehab start

The Potomac Nationals were "armed and ready" for Tuesday's game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Starter Shawn Hill and reliever Jordan Zimmermann combined on a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts as host Potomac notched a 2-0 victory.

The Nationals' Hill (1-0) made his first start of the season, rehabbing with the P-Nats after going on the 15-day Disabled List with right forearm tightness during Spring Training. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed four hits and one walk, fanning four over five innings.

Zimmermann, 21, also a righty, tossed four innings of two-hit ball, striking out six and walking three for his first save in his first appearance of the season.

"It felt good to get (the first appearance) out of the way and get going," Zimmermann said. "I was able to use my fastball to get ahead in the count."

He said Hill "looked very good. He got a lot of ground balls and let his defense work behind him."

The Nationals (2-2) scored all their runs in the second inning. Marvin Lowrance singled and Seth Bynum smacked his first homer of the year to left.

Phillip Britton went 2-for-4 for the Pelicans (3-2).

Gonzalo Lopez (0-1) surrendered two runs on three hits, fanning one and walking one over three innings for the loss.
