Newcomb Stellar Again; Owlz Win 11-3

Aaron Newcomb and Mark Sappington combined to throw six innings of one-run ball and Orem knocked off Idaho Falls 11-3 in the first game of a three game series on Thursday night.

Five days after combining on a shutout, Mark Sappington and Aaron Newcomb helped lead the Owlz to their third straight victory. Sappington drew the start, firing three innings, giving up just one run on three hits. Newcomb picked up for him in the 4th and surrendered just two hits, while throwing three scoreless innings.

Orem fell behind 1-0 in the 1st, but came back to get at least one run in the next three innings. Michael Bolaski doubled with one out in the 2nd and came home on a RBI groundout by Caleb Bushyhead to tie the game at 1-1.

In the 3rd inning, Joel Capote and Michael Snyder walked, which brought Andrew Ray to the plate with two outs. Ray tripled home both runs to give Orem a 3-1 lead. Ray finished 3-for-5 with one run and three RBIs. One more run came home in the 4th on a RBI groundout by Bemboom that scored Clarke.

Clarke put the game away in the 8th inning, blasting a 3-run home run after failing to lay down a sacrifice bunt on his first two tries. Later in the inning, Sherman Johnson had a RBI double, while Snyder, Ray and Bolaski each had RBI singles in the frame.

Orem is now two games above .500 for the first time this season and will go for the series win on Friday night at 7:15 pm.
