Minor League All-Star season has dawned.
Three of MLB.com's top-100 prospects -- No. 20 Nick Senzel (Daytona), No. 40 Jorge Mateo (Tampa) and No. 41 Mitch Keller (Bradenton) -- highlight the Florida State League All-Star rosters, announced Thursday. The game pits the North Division against the South and will take place Saturday, June 17 at Lakeland's Joker Marchant Stadium.
Mateo and Senzel will play next to each other on the left side of the North Division infield after both were named to starting spots. Mateo, a shortstop who has also seen time at center field this season with the Yankees, is batting .250/.288/.420 with 22 extra-base hits and 18 steals in 50 games in his return to Class A Advanced.
Senzel, the second overall pick in last year's Draft and the top Reds prospect, has hit .298/.356/.455 with three homers, a triple, a league-best 20 doubles and eight steals in 50 games to begin his first full campaign.
Keller is just one of nine Marauders named to the South Division roster. The Pirates' No. 2 prospect has a 2.93 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 39 strikeouts in 40 innings this season but has been on the disabled list since May 26 with a back strain. Catcher Christian Kelley, shortstop Cole Tucker, outfielders Casey Hughston and Logan Hill and pitchers Dario Agrazal, Jake Brentz, Seth McGarry and Yunior Montero also made the cut for the Marauders. Hill leads the circuit with 14 homers, 42 RBIs and 38 runs scored, while Tucker is tops with 27 steals.
Host Lakeland only has one representative on the North roster: No. 3 Tigers prospect Beau Burrows. The 20-year-old right-hander leads the FSL in ERA (1.23), strikeouts (62) and WHIP (0.95) over 58 2/3 innings with the Flying Tigers. If there's a favorite to start the game for the North, it's Burrows.
Other FSL leaders named All-Stars on Thursday are Charlotte second baseman Brandon Lowe (.437 OBP, .610 slugging, 1.047 OPS), Fort Myers infielder Chris Paul (.351 average, 66 hits) and Cardinals right-hander Zac Gallen (2.15 FIP).
