Norfolk falls Thursday afternoon

June 25, 2009
Norfolk pounded out 12 hits, but Pawtucket connected on two three-run homers in a 7-4 win over the Tides Thursday.

Joey Gathright had three singles and an RBI to lead the offensive charge, upping his average to .338 for the season. Gathright has now hit safely in 16 of his last 19 games, hitting .414 (29-for-70) over that span.

Brandon Snyder also had a solid day at the plate, as he doubled home a run in the first inning and tripled home another in the third. Justin Christian and Brandon Pinckney also added two hits apiece in the contest.

The Pawsox did the majority of their scoring on two swings, as Chris Carter clubbed a three-run homer in the third inning and Paul McAnulty connected on a three-run blast two innings later. Both long balls came off of Tides starter David Pauley (5-6), who took the loss after yielding seven runs on 10 hits in five innings of work.

The Tides bullpen of Andy Mitchell and Kam Mickolio combined to allow one hit in four shutout innings.

Norfolk will wrap up its homestand Friday night as they look to salvage a four-game split with the Red Sox. Jake Arrieta (0-2, 4.63) will take the mound for the Tides against left-hander Kris Johnson (3-6, 6.40), with first pitch slated for 7:15.
