Keys Have Season High 19 Hits in 14-8 Win

All but one Frederick Key registered a multi-hit game and a run batted in as the Keys won a shootout in the final game of the regular season against Wilmington, 14-8. For the Keys, their 19 hits were a season high.

Frederick took the lead in the first inning plating three runs highlighted by RF Ronnie Welty's groundrule double. It would be one of two doubled for Welty on the afternoon. Up 3-2 in the fifth inning the Keys registered a huge two-out rally to open the game up. With two runners on base, 1b Tyler Townsend doubled over the head of left-fielder Rene Oriental's head clearing the bases. Next up was newcomer Mycal Givens, making his Carolina League debut. Givens singled home Townsend and the Keys had a 7-2 lead. Out came Wilmington starter Aaron Crow and C Luis Bernardo singled home Givens and the Keys were atop 8-2.

Wilmington scored five runs to get back into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. RF Nick Francis hit a three-run home run to highlight the frame for the Blue Rocks.

But in the end it was the Keys day. They piled on six more runs, all coming with two men out in the next three innings. Frederick went 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position in the win.

The Keys finished the 2010 campaign at 72-68 with the fourth best record in the Carolina League. It is the Keys first winning record since its 2005 championship season. RHP Oliver Drake will be on the hill for Frederick against Potomac Nationals LHP Daniel Rosenbaum for Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m.
