Offensive Players of the Week

Here's a look at the top offensive performers in each league for the week ending May 19:

International League
Chris Colabello, Rochester
(.536/.594/1.071, 7 G, 15-for-28, 6 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, 7 K)
Colabello spent seven seasons in the independent Canadian-American Association before signing with the Twins in 2012. Though he took the long way around, the 29-year-old has definitely arrived -- he earned his second IL Player of the Week award this week after a two-homer game Wednesday and a 4-for-5 performance Sunday. Colabello leads the league in home runs (11) and doubles (17), ranks second in slugging (.657), third in average (.361) and RBIs (34) and fifth in OBP (.419). He's riding an 11-game hitting streak.

Pacific Coast League
Juan Perez, Fresno
(.522/.560/.913, 6 G, 12-for-23, 3 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 SB, 1 CS)
After hitting .302 for Double-A Richmond last season, Perez is off to a solid start in the PCL, batting .311 in his first 42 Triple-A games. He's also showing some pop in the thin western air, lifting his slugging percentage from .441 last year to .530 with Fresno. The 26-year-old infielder padded both stats this week, reeling off five straight multi-hit games -- including homers in back-to-back contests Thursday and Friday -- as the Grizzlies won five of six and completed a four-game sweep of visiting New Orleans.

Eastern League
Cory Vaughn, Binghamton
(.400/.444/.600, 6 G, 10-for-25, 2 2B, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 SB)
The son of longtime Major Leaguer Greg Vaughn, Cory ranked second in the Florida State League with 23 homers last season. Though he's bashed only five so far this year, the San Diego State product is hitting better than ever with a .307/.392/.500 line in his first 31 Double-A games. Vaughn has hits in each of his last seven games and drove in at least one run in six of those contests, helping the B-Mets go 5-1 during the week to pull into a tie for first place in the EL Eastern Division.

Southern League
Nick Evans, Mobile
(.455/.538/1.000, 7 G, 10-for-22, 4 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 3 K)
Evans played 159 games with the Mets between 2008 and 2011, batting .256, but missed most of the 2012 campaign after breaking three bones in his left hand while diving for a ball as a member of the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) last April. Fully healthy, the 27-year-old is proving it with his bat, hitting .303/.410/.521 in his first 40 games with Mobile. Evans went deep in three straight games for the BayBears between Tuesday and Thursday this week before adding a fourth solo shot Saturday night.

Texas League
Kalian Sams, San Antonio
(.308/.438/.846, 7 G, 8-for-26, 5 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R, 6 BB, 5 K, 3 SB)
Released by the Mariners in March, Sams' work visa was 48 hours shy of expiration before the Padres signed the Dutch native at the start of May. Sams expressed his appreciation by homering twice in his first game for the Missions on May 5, and he's barely let up since. The 26-year-old outfielder powered San Antonio to a 9-6 win at Frisco on Saturday night with a long ball, two doubles, three RBIs and two stolen bases. In all, Sams went deep three times this week, giving him seven homers and 19 RBIs in 12 Texas League games.

California League
Michael Snyder, Inland Empire
(.381/.435/.952, 6 G, 8-for-21, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 3 K)
After posting impressive numbers for Rookie-level Orem last summer, Snyder jumped straight to the Cal League this spring and has not missed a beat. The 22-year-old first baseman went on a home run tear early this week, going deep once last Sunday, twice on Monday and adding a fourth blast at High Desert on Wednesday. With eight long balls in 41 games with the 66ers, he's already matched his total in 70 games with the Owlz in 2012.

Carolina League
Luis Sardinas, Myrtle Beach
(.419/.424/.581, 7 G, 13-for-31, 1 2B, 2 3B, 9 RBI, 6 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 2 SB, 1 CS)
The Rangers have a delicious problem: a glut of talent at the shortstop position. With Elvis Andrus and now Jurickson Profar at the big league level, they still have Sardinas -- MLB.com's No. 78 prospect -- making his way up the ladder. Known more for his splendid fielding, the Venezuelan switch-hitter broke out with his bat this week, collecting four hits in back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday -- the latter his 20th birthday. Sardinas had eight RBIs along with the eight hits and is now batting .302 on the season.

Florida State League
Dustin Geiger, Daytona
(.469/.514/.938, 8 G, 15-for-32, 7 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 5 K)
Though Daytona's Javier Baez and Jorge Soler are ranked higher on prospect lists, Geiger is quietly having the strongest season. The 21-year-old third baseman combined with Soler to go 14-for-18 in the D-Cubs' double-header sweep of Lakeland Friday, with Geiger contributing seven hits -- five for extra bases -- and five RBIs. He now leads the league with 36 RBIs, ranks fourth with a .333 batting average and sixth with a .401 on-base percentage.

Midwest League
Jesse Winker, Dayton
(.375/.516/.875, 7 G, 9-for-24, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 6 BB, 4 K, 1 SB)
A first-round pick by the Reds (49th overall) in 2012, Winker has shown an advanced approach at the plate since his debut with Rookie-level Billings last summer. The 19-year-old hit .338/.443/.500 with the Mustangs and is off to a strong campaign with the Dragons. In his first 39 full-season games, Winker has drawn 24 walks while fanning 28 times, giving him a .414 on-base percentage that is seventh-best in the league. This week he added some power, slugging three homers over a four-game stretch and putting together a six-game RBI streak. The Reds' No. 11 prospect, Winker has been particularly dangerous with runners on base, posting a .388/.506/.672 line.

South Atlantic League
Peter O'Brien, Charleston
(.409/.552/.818, 6 G, 9-for-22, 3 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 12 R, 7 BB, 3 K)
O'Brien's first full-season campaign has involved a mix of consistency and streakiness. The 2012 second-round pick has consistently hit well in every situation: he's over .300 at home, on the road, during the day, at night, with runners on or bases empty. O'Brien has also put together some impressive streaks, including a six-game RBI string, eight-game run-scoring streak and nine-game hitting tear this week. Despite his catcher's speed -- he has not attempted a stolen base this year and is 0-for-1 in his 84-game career -- O'Brien is tied for third in the Sally League with 32 runs scored while his 15 doubles rank second.
