Offensive Players of the Week

Here's a look at the top offensive performers in each league for the week ending Aug. 4:

International League
Tyler Moore, Syracuse
(.308/.379/.808, 6 G, 8-for-26, 4 2B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB, 5 K)
Moore began the season in Washington but hit just .151 in limited action over a handful of big league stints. Back in Syracuse for an extended stretch, the 26-year-old slugger has been steadily warming up at the plate, culminating in a two-homer, six-RBI performance at Indianapolis on Monday. Moore went deep again and drove in five runs Friday. Watch out when the Mississippi State product gets truly hot: in the final two months of the 2010 season, Moore hit .359/.417/.750 with 21 homers and 66 RBIs over 58 games for Class A Advanced Potomac.

Pacific Coast League
Ben Broussard, Omaha
(.464/.545/.679, 7 G, 13-for-28, 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 5 BB, 5 K)
A veteran of 705 Major League games over seven seasons -- he is one of five big leaguers ever to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in a single season -- Broussard was out of baseball for three years before signing on with Mexico City this spring. Joining the Storm Chasers in June, the 36-year-old first baseman is hitting as well as ever. Broussard has hits in each of his last 12 games, including four multi-hit outings last week. Though his power is down from years past, he can still hit: he's posted a .299/.375/.430 line through 27 games with Omaha.

Eastern League
Jamie Johnson, Erie
(.455/.618/.545, 7 G, 10-for-22, 2 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 6 R, 11 BB, 4 K, 4 SB, 1 CS)
Listed at 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Johnson doesn't have a lot of power -- he's hit 13 home runs in 553 pro games -- but he knows how to get on base. The 26-year-old outfielder drew 11 walks to go along with 10 hits last week, lifting his on-base percentage to .412 -- third-best in the Eastern League. On Sunday, Johnson went 1-for-2 with four free passes and scored twice in Erie's 9-5 win at New Britain. In addition to all the walks -- his 77 are second-most in the league -- Johnson is riding a 12-game hitting streak.

Southern League
Ji-Man Choi, Jackson
(.350/.536/.700, 7 G, 7-for-20, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 3 R, 8 BB, 2 K, 1 SB)
Though Choi cooled off toward the end of the week, he began it with a series of bangs, driving in three runs Monday, a pair Tuesday and four more with a grand slam on Wednesday. His streak of six straight games with at least one RBI ended Thursday, but the 22-year-old first baseman is tied for the Mariners organization lead with 71 on the season.

Texas League
Max Stassi, Corpus Christi
(.414/.452/.793, 7 G, 12-for-29, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 CS)
Stassi captured this award two weeks ago after homering in five straight games and in late June set a career mark with eight RBIs in one game. The 22-year-old backstop's performance last week was perhaps less flashy but no less potent. Stassi went 4-for-4 with a homer and two doubles at San Antonio on Monday, fell a double shy of the cycle in a 3-for-4 outing Wednesday and collected multiple hits twice more in the rest of the week.

California League
Juan Silverio, Bakersfield
(.480/.480/.920, 6 G, 12-for-25, 2 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 0 BB, 5 K)
Silverio has collected five hits in a game twice this season -- both in the last eight days. After going 5-for-5 on July 28, the 22-year-old infielder did it again on Saturday with a homer, two doubles, two singles and five RBIs. Though not as spectacular, Silverio's other games were good too -- he's on an eight-game hitting streak during which he's lifted his season batting average 20 points to .290.

Carolina League
Kyle Kubitza, Lynchburg
(.478/.538/.913, 6 G, 11-for-23, 3 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 CS)
Though July was Kubitza's weakest month of the season -- he hit .229/.340/.337 with seven RBIs in 25 games -- the 23-year-old third baseman's notable patience at the plate began to pay off last week. Kubitza doubled and singled twice at Frederick on Monday, doubled again Tuesday, then reeled off three straight multi-hit games. The Texas State product, a third-round pick in 2011, leads the Carolina League with 63 walks and ranks sixth with a .380 on-base percentage.

Florida State League
Jonathan Rodriguez, Palm Beach
(.462/.533/.923, 7 G, 12-for-26, 3 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 SB)
Rodriguez failed to reach base at least twice in just one game last week -- Monday at Clearwater, when he went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer. In three games against Dunedin over the weekend, the 23-year-old first baseman went 6-for-12 with two homers, a double, five RBIs and six runs scored. Rodriguez is fourth in the league in hitting (.305), third in slugging (.504), and fifth in on-base percentage (.381) and RBIs (63).

Midwest League
Ketel Marte, Clinton
(.667/.710/.815, 7 G, 18-for-27, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 1 K, 3 SB, 1 CS)
Marte merely appeared as a pinch runner in Monday's game at Cedar Rapids, making the rest of his week even more astounding. The 19-year-old switch-hitter collected 18 hits over his next six games, along with four walks, while striking out once. The prodigious hitting spree lifted his season average from .265 to .296. After posting a .190 average in April, Marte has improved each month and is batting .329 in the second half with hits in each of his last 12 games with a plate appearance.

South Atlantic League
Francisco Sosa, Asheville
(.423/.483/.692, 7 G, 11-for-26, 4 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 SB, 1 CS)
Sosa has been one of the Sally League's top hitters all season -- he's fourth on the circuit with a .320 average to go along with a .399 on-base percentage and .516 slugging percentage -- but the 23-year-old outfielder poured it on last week. Sosa collected multiple hits four times in five days, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance against Savannah on Wednesday that saw him double three times and a four-RBI outing at Hickory on Saturday. Along with his fine stats at the plate, Sosa has been dangerous on the bases as well: his 28 steals (while being caught four times) are tied for eighth-most in the league.

New York-Penn League
Isaac Ballou, Auburn
(.500/.538/.625, 6 G, 12-for-24, 3 2B, 2 RBI, 8 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 SB)
A 15th-round pick out of Marshall in June, Ballou is off to a flying start in the New York-Penn League and ranks seventh on the circuit with a .404 on-base percentage. Ballou had hits in each of his six games last week but really turned it on at Hudson Valley over the weekend, going 7-for-11 with two doubles and five runs scored on Saturday and Sunday as the Doubledays completed a three-game sweep of the Renegades.

Northwest League
Michael Tauchman, Tri-City
(.480/.533/.720, 7 G, 12-for-25, 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 2 SB, 1 CS)
Tauchman has yet to go deep, but he's done nearly everything else the Dust Devils could ask for after being taken by the Rockies in the 10th round of the June Draft -- he leads the club in hits, runs and stolen bases. A significant number of the hits came last week as the 22-year-old Bradley (Ill.) University product collected a dozen of them over a six-game stretch and matched a career mark with three RBIs against Eugene on Friday. Tauchman has scored in six straight and eight of his last nine games.

Appalachian League
Mitch Nay, Bluefield
(.462/.545/.885, 7 G, 12-for-26, 2 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 10 R, 6 BB, 2 K)
A supplemental first-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2012, Nay debuted with Bluefield in June and has been impressive from the start, hitting .351 in his first 10 games. All that was missing was the power, which the 19-year-old third baseman delivered last week. After single hits in his first three contests, Nay closed out the week with four straight multi-hit games and slugged a trio of homers. He ranks second in the league with 30 RBIs and fifth with a .324 batting average.

Pioneer League
Jose Queliz, Missoula
(.550/.591/1.050, 5 G, 11-for-20, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 K)
Hitting for the cycle takes a rare mix of skill and luck, and Queliz took advantage of both Wednesday to become the 11th player to perform the feat in 2013. The 20-year-old catcher/designated hitter has three homers and one triple this season, but managed to collect one of each, along with a double and single, in the Osprey's 7-3 win over Helena. Though Queliz has played only 26 games for Missoula, he's been one of the club's most potent hitters with a .358/.389/.557 line and 22 RBIs.
