Participants of All-Star Home Run Derby named

Southern League Home Run Derby will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at Smokies Park

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies today announced the eight All-Stars who will compete in the 2012 Southern League Home Run Derby, presented by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, on Tuesday, June 19th at Smokies Park. The Home Run Derby will take place at 6:00 p.m., prior to the 2012 U.S. Cellular Southern League All-Star Game.

Representing the North Division will be Smokies first baseman Justin Bour (.280, 6 HR, 52 RBI); Huntsville Stars first baseman Hunter Morris (.290, 7 HR, 43 RBI); and Jackson Generals outfielders Denny Almonte (.287, 9 HR, 30 RBI) and Joseph Dunigan (.277, 11 HR, 31 RBI).

The South Division will be led by Mobile BayBears first baseman Matt Davidson, who holds the Southern League lead with 15 home runs. Joining Davidson will be Mobile teammates Alfredo Marte (.289, 13 HR, 44 RBI) and Marc Krauss (.281, 10 HR, 41 RBI), along with Montgomery Biscuits outfielder Kyeong Kang (.249, 9 HR, 29 RBI).

The format for the Home Run Derby will be as follows: Each player will get eight outs in the first round, the two players with the highest total of home runs will advance to the Championship Round, where first round home runs do not carry over. The two contestants will each get four outs and the player with the most home runs in the Championship Round will be the 2012 Southern League All-Star Home Run Derby Champion.
