PawSox Broadcaster Dan Hoard to NFL

Hoard joins Lapham in Bengals radio booth

The Pawtucket Red Sox are pleased to report that one of their radio broadcasters has earned a job in the National Football League. The Cincinnati Bengals announced today that Dan Hoard, the lead radio voice for the PawSox since 2006, has been chosen as their new radio broadcaster for the 2011 NFL season. Hoard will team with partner Dave Lapham, a former Bengals offensive lineman, on the Cincinnati Bengal Radio Network to broadcast all Cincinnati games during the 2011 season.

Hoard, 47, will remain with the PawSox through the end of the 2011 baseball season. He is the latest in a long line of PawSox broadcasters who have received the call to the big leagues. Those include: Gary Cohen (New York Mets in 1989), Don Orsillo (Boston Red Sox in 2001), Dave Flemming (San Francisco Giants in 2004), Andy Freed (Tampa Bay Rays in 2005), Dave Shea (Washington Nationals in 2005), and Dave Jageler (Washington Nationals in 2006).

"I am proud to continue the tradition of broadcasters who move from McCoy Stadium to the majors - or in this case the NFL," said Hoard. "I'd like to express my sincere thanks to everyone with the PawSox for allowing me to be a part of a wonderful organization for the past six seasons. This opportunity with the Cincinnati Bengals is a dream come true. I look forward to finishing a great season with the PawSox first before the excitement of football season begins."

Hoard will also be able to continue his duties as radio voice for the University of Cincinnati football and basketball, a position he has held for the past decade. That will make him one of just four current NFL announcers to handle both the local college football and professional football teams' broadcasts during the same season.

"Dan Hoard is a talented and accomplished broadcaster who, in his sixth season with us continues to leave his mark with fans of PawSox Baseball," said PawSox President Mike Tamburro.
