Pena, Barfield top All-Star voting

Pena has easily maintained his grasp as the leading vote-getter in Triple-A All-Star voting thus far, with fans across the nation opting to send the Major League veteran to Salt Lake in July.

Pena, the 28-year-old veteran designated hitter with Triple-A Reno, leads the Minors with 21 homers and a .739 slugging percentage. He also leads all players on the ballot heading into the final week of fan voting.

The D-backs slugger also ranks fourth in the Minors with 61 RBIs. A two-time Pacific Coast League Player of the Week this season, Pena has gotten even hotter of late, with three homers and 11 RBIs in his last seven games.

Lehigh Valley second baseman Josh Barfield leads all International League players in votes. Another Major League veteran, Barfield is batting .275 with four homers, 28 RBIs and 57 hits in his first 57 games with the Phillies' top affiliate.

In two of the closest IL races, Erik Kratz has the edge by a small margin on top Yankees prospect Jesus Montero at catcher for the IL, and Syracuse's Michael Aubrey has a small lead over Indianapolis' Andy Marte at designated hitter.

Durham's Desmond Jennings, Louisville's Jeremy Hermida and Lehigh Valley's Brandon Moss are the top three vote-getters among IL outfielders, with Indy's Alex Presley, Louisville's Yonder Alonso and Pawtucket's Daniel Nava all within reach.

Red Sox first baseman Lars Anderson has a slim lead over Lehigh Valley's Jeff Larish, while teammate Jose Iglesisas has a big lead over Pirates prospect Chase d'Arnaud at shortstop.

Columbus' Lonnie Chisenhall has a small edge over Ronnie Belliard at third, although Belliard retired earlier in the week, so the former first-round pick's status looks safe.

Brian Gordon leads all IL pitchers in voting for starting pitcher, although he may never make it to Salt Lake -- the right-hander from West Point, N.Y., opted out of his contract with Philadelphia on Wednesday and made his Yankees debut in the Bronx on Thursday. Toledo's Adam Wilk ranks second, above Julio Teheran (Gwinnett), soon-to-be-promoted Andrew Miller (Pawtucket) and Dontrelle Willis (Louisville).

Drew Carpenter and Scott Mathieson, both of Lehigh Valley, lead all relievers in the IL. Carpenter is doing it on the back of write-in votes.

The PCL infield shapes up like this so far: Las Vegas's Brian Jeroloman (C), Iowa's Bryan LaHair (1B) and Jonathan Mota (SS), and Salt Lake's Gil Velazquez (2B) and Jeff Baisley (3B).

Reno's Collin Cowgill, Iowa's Tyler Colvin and Omaha's Jarrod Dyson own the top three spots among PCL outfielders so far, ahead of Las Vegas' Travis Snider and Colorado Springs' Charlie Blackmon.

Nashville's Sam Narron and Sacramento's Graham Godfrey have the most votes among PCL starting pitchers, ahead of Toronto prospect Brad Mills (Las Vegas) and Royals lefty Mike Montgomery (Omaha). Bees reliever Barrett Browning and Nashville's Mark DiFelice lead all vote-getters for the PCL bullpen.

Fans have until Friday, June 24, to fill in their online ballots on MiLB.com. The fan vote is worth one-third of what determines the All-Star rosters. The Triple-A All-Star Game is set for July 13 at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, the picturesque home of the Angels' top affiliate.
