Pettit on Disabled List

Escobar Completes Rehab Assignment
June 5, 2009
The Salt Lake Bees announced today that the club has placed outfielder Chris Pettit on the Disabled List with a left hamate fracture and recalled catcher Ben Johnson from Double-A Arkansas.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim also announced that right-handed pitcher Kelvim Escobar has completed his rehab assignment and will return to the Angels lineup.

Pettit, 24, has appeared in 50 games for the Bees in 2009, his first season in Triple-A. He owns a .367 average with a team-high 21 doubles, four homeruns, 34 RBI and 14 stolen bases. The Pasadena, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 19th round of the 2006 draft.

Johnson, 27, has appeared in 41 games for Arkansas in 2009, hitting .184 with seven doubles, one triple, four homeruns and 22 RBI.

In 22 games for the Bees in 2008, he hit .225 with 13 RBI. The Seattle, Wash. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 23rd round of the 2004 draft.

Escobar, 33, appeared in one game for the Bees during his rehab assignment, allowing eight hits and five runs with one strikeout in five innings pitched.

He was placed on the Disabled List with right shoulder inflammation after a preseason game earlier this year and is expected to start in tomorrow's game against Detroit. The native of Venezuela signed with the Angels as a free agent in November 2003.

The 31-24 Salt Lake Bees conclude a four-game home series against the Sacramento River Cats tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark. A fireworks show will begin at the conclusion of tonight's game.
