Phegley Wins 2012 MiLB Rawlings Gold Glove Award

(Fort Mill, SC) – Earlier today Minor League Baseball and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company Inc., announced that Charlotte Knights catcher Josh Phegley was chosen as a recipient of a 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® for defensive excellence at his position. Phegley was among nine Minor League Baseball players chosen for the distinguished honor.

The Indiana University product becomes the second Knights player in as many seasons to receive the Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award. In 2011, Knights center fielder Jordan Danks was among the nine players honored.

The 24-year-old led all International League catchers with a .996 fielding percentage. Phegley, who caught 96 games for the Knights, also had an International League best 772 putouts. He committed just three errors in 834 total chances.

“This is a great honor for Josh,” stated Knights Vice President/GM Dan Rajkowski. “Josh spent numerous hours in the community this season and was a key contributor to our team’s success both on and off the field.”

Among some of his other 2012 accomplishments, Phegley was an International League All-Star and played in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Buffalo, NY on July 11. Phegley frequently volunteered his time in the community as well. On Friday, September 14, the Knights awarded Phegley the Charlotte Knights Community Service Award during an on-field ceremony.

The Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award honors players from the 10 domestic-based, full season Minor Leagues. Each of the nine winners will receive their own Rawlings Gold Glove Award, modeled after the iconic award given to Major League Baseball’s top defensive players, during the 2013 season.
