Piscotty, McCray honored in AFL

Cardinals outfielder, White Sox hurler are players of week

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Salt River Rafters OF Stephen Piscotty (Cardinals) and Glendale Desert Dogs RHP Stephen McCray (White Sox) are the week two Arizona Fall League player and pitcher of the week, respectively.

Piscotty: Last week, the 22-year-old Pleasanton, Calif. native led the league in batting (.611), hits (11), and total bases (16) and tied for the lead in triples (two). He tied for second in stolen bases (three), and ranked third in on-base percentage (.636)and fourth in slugging percentage (.889).

At .414, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Stanford University product ranked fifth in league hitting after two weeks and entered week three with the most at-bats (29) among the league's six .400 hitters.

A 2012 first-round (36th overall) Draft choice by the Cardinals, Piscotty is a .295 hitter over his two-year professional career with 19 home runs and 86 RBIs in 167 games. He reached Double-A Springfield of the Texas League in 2013 where he batted .299 in 49 games.

McCray: The 26-year-old McCray was the winning pitcher in a perfect four-inning start last week at Salt River, striking out two while retiring 12 consecutive batters on only 38 pitches.

The Decatur, Ga. native, now 2-0, was tied for the league lead in victories and boasted a 0.00 ERA with four strikeouts in two starts covering 6 2/3 innings. Opponents hit just .100 against him in his first two outings.

A 16th-round (488th overall) selection of the White Sox in the 2010 Draft out of the University of Tennessee, McCray is a four-year professional. He has a 28-22 record and 3.52 ERA in 93 Minor League games. He split his 2013 season between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte.
